There are 20,000 Chinese born every day and Chinese anticipates that by 2020, 60 percent of the population will live in the urbanized area. Knowing that the current rate is about 30%, this is a substantial demographic change and the village within city has emerged to play a crucial role in this process. The outline of Village within the City becomes clear in this context. I explain rudimental process of its appearance. All villages within a city were once a freestanding farming village. When the infrastructure just kisses the farming villages it enters the second phase of its transformation. Soon urbanity replaces the surrounding farmland, bringing village into the phase three. The village within city is more than a physical phenomenon; it is about human status transformation. When urbanity touches the village, a farmer becomes a citizen. This sounds abstract, but it is not as Chinese citizens cannot own ground but farmers do: The raison d’etre of the Village in the City.
