    RANDALL CRANE

Randall Crane has a Ph.D. from MIT and is currently Professor of Urban Planning and acting director of the Institute of Transportation Studies at UCLA, where he is also affiliated with the Institute of the Environment and the Ziman Center for Real Estate. Most of his work focuses on infrastructure, environmental policy, housing, public finance, and transportation. He has consulted for the World Bank on environmental policy and local government reform in Asia and Africa, and recently served on a National Research Council committee that produced a major study of the water problems of Mexico City. His book, "Travel by Design: The Influence of Urban Form on Travel," Oxford, 2001 (with Marlon Boarnet) is positioned as the reference monograph on the topic. Two books in progress include "The Market for Shelter: U.S. Housing 1985-2005," and "The Death and Life of Smart Growth" (with Daniel Chatman). The next will focus on modern Chinese urbanization.
