A PERSPECTIVE ON CHINA | MONTHLY LECTURE SERIES

On March 19, 2007, YUNG HO CHANG will lecture on BEIJING as part of our 3X3 lecture series at the Center for Architecture, New York. YUNG HO CHANG is the principal architect of Atelier Feichang Jianzhu [FCJZ], professor of architecture and head of the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology [MIT] in Boston, USA, and professor of the Peking University Graduate Center of Architecture. is working in close collaboration with beiLAB on setting up the Global Classroom lecture series in Beijing. The program will create a forum that encourages similar and conflicting viewpoints and perspectives of artistic, architectural, academic, scientific and corporate communities. ART IN AMERICA

First survey exhibition of American art ever presented in the People's Republic of China.

Art in America: Three Hundred Years of Innovation features approximately 130 important works of American art spanning the Colonial period to the present age, focusing on painting selected from major U.S. and European collections, including the Terra Foundation and Guggenheim Foundation. The exhibition premieres in Beijing at the National Art Museum of China, from February 10 through April 5, 2007, and travels to Shanghai where it will be jointly presented by the Shanghai Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai, from May 1 to June 30, 2007. PEARL RIVER DELTA CITY

PEARL RIVER CITY [Contemporary Art from South China] presents many of the artistic facets that can be found in the Pearl River Delta. The participating artists are part of an organizational network that consists of: the 10 year old Para/Site Art Space from Hong Kong, Vitamin Creative Space from Guangzhou, the media collective Videotage from Hong Kong and Alternative Archive, from Guangzhou. It also features several artists two of which are: Jiang Zhi from Shenzhen and artists/architects Gutierrez+Portefaix, based in Hong Kong. More info >>

HK LAB 3

Hong Kong based MAP OFFICE is calling out for proposals for HK LAB 3. The publication will observe Hong Kong from China, reading future in the past and reinvestigate historical moments/spaces to construct an experience in which some mythological invention explore the way we live, speak, exchange and represent. Beijing based Dynamic City Foundation [DCF] is calling out for architectural ideas for their 500 m3 Design Competition. Out of a selection of growing websites dedicated to sustainable development in China we would like to highlight the following websites and discussions: China Dialogue [the world's first fully bilingual website devoted to the environment], the Venice Architecture Biennial 2006 Golden Lion award winning Co-Evolution project by the Danish Architecture Center, a video interview with Peter Head, director of sustainability of Arup and the  Sustainable Urban Housing in China project conducted by MIT Building Technology Group [Department of Architecture].
