In this lecture Zhang Lei talk about the five recent projects that he have completed in Nanjing.
Zhang Lei was born in 1964, in Jiangsu Province, studied architecture at the Nanjing Institute of Technology, and completed postgraduate studies at the ETH in Zurich, Switzerland. In 2000 he established Atelier Zhang Lei, an office of 10-15 employees, and became a Professor in the Architecture Design Institute at Nanjing University. His built work in Nanjing includes the Graduate Student Dormitory of Nanjing University, 2002; Model Animal Research Center, 2003; and the Slit house, 2007. Zhang Lei is part of a generation of Chinese architects, whose working methods include experimentation with both old and new design ideas and elements. Given his education abroad, he feels strongly that his architecture is neither Chinese nor foreign.
